Today, using a high quality fiche scanner, we scan and convert the microfiche to digital. Jobs may consist of 1 fiche or several thousand fiche. The largest job we ever ran took several years to complete and generated millions of images. We provide service to end users as well as other service bureauís.
Most customers prefer the conversion service to Adobe PDF format, although Group 4 TIFF (tagged image file format) is also very common. Most conversion jobs result in 1 multi-page pdf or tiff file per fiche.
Optional OCR, optical character recognition, and CD/DVD encryption is available for HIPAA, health insurance portability and accountability act, medical records or sensitive government records. If FIPS 140-2, Federal Information Processing Standard is a US Government security standard used to accredit cryptographic modules, is important to you, we can provide this encryption also.
In a recent job for a school district, we converted COM microfiche to digital, PDF format with OCR. In the end, the user was able to search the file containing payroll and retirement records by name, account number and/or social security numbers. Tremendous time savings resulted, not to mention the happy users who no longer had to spend hours looking at fiche in a microfiche reader printer.
